Windows 7: Strip

25 Dec 2010   #1

Windows 7 Home Premium

I'm fixin to use one of those frowningSmiley things if this keeps up...

I'm running W7-64 on a 25GB partition.
program files and data on separate partitions
-where possible.

and C: wants more.

Windows Disk Manager won't increase the size of the C: partition,
only option is to shrink it.
{manic laughter here.}

and C: is too full to run Windows Image Backup.
can the image temp file (data collected before writing to backup target I guess) be created on another disk?
all I really want to do is back up my user/system files,
not an image.

to create more space on C:,
I want to delete Windows 7 resident programs I don't use
like Windows Mail etc...

I need 'System Permission' to do this...

I'm curious about my options.
what resident programs can I delete
without corrupting the OS?

if you get my drift,
I want to strip out whatever
I find is unnecessary to my use
and run lean.

I'm off to Hirens now...
GParted to the rescue.

Have you tried to move your page file to the one TB drive....and why so small a partition anyway? I wouldn't try to lean out Windows 7....remove the wrong thing....Blue screen city....

One thing you can do is run Disk Cleanup and or turn system restore off to free up space. I'd probably turn system restore back on so you have at least one restore point to bail you out if you screw up. Turning windows features off just hides them so that probably won't help. Part of the problem in your case is all of the files for every feature of windows 7 are there. Some features are just disabled depending on which version you install. Using anytime upgrade just enables the features for a higher version. You probably can't increase your system partition unless there is unallocated space to expand it into. You would likely have to reduce another partition to free up space first. Even then it may have to be continuous space to be usable, be adjacent to the partition you want to expand.

Starting computer with power strip
So our office just upgraded computers. We went from pentiumD machines running XP, all the way to solid state HD, Core i5's and windows 7. What a change! lol I am helping to set each station up before we set the pc's at each station. On our old machines we could set them to boot up when we turned...

How to get rid of info strip at the bottom of every page?
Hello all, I must have hit a wrong button or something because as of yesterday, an information strip about 3/4 of an inch wide is all the way across the bottom or every page, in every program and on every internet page. It interferes with things I am trying to do or see. It is not the task bar,...

I need an LED light strip for solar toy operation
As the title says... I need a light source to power small solar-powered toys as my window placement is not suitable for this. Incandescent light isn't strong enough for my needs(not unless I place them within a foot of the bulb) and I'm not going to switch to CFL bulbs due to their light UV...

No networking after windows 7 lite strip down
Hi, FYI, I am a bit of an amateur. I decided that I wanted this cheap dell laptop to run faster, so I used a tool to "strip down" my windows 7 32bit. It worked stupendously well. Everything seems two or three times as fast now as it was before. BUT, I now have no wifi access. I confirmed...
