How to make Zip files NOT appear as directories?
Is there a way to make Explorer and other filemanagers NOT show zip files as though they are directories/folders. It's incredibly annoying having them in the folder list.

It's because no software is installed to open them and Windows has standard built-in ZIP compression/decompression. Try using WinRAR (not free) or 7-Zip (Free). They will be normal files if you install one of those.
I do not see how the "this" link was at all related, I'm afraid.
Zip is currently associated with IzArc archiver and double clicking on a zip archive will open in the correct program. Windows knows and accepts it is there and is correctly associated.
but it still shows the zip files as folders in the folder tree. I want to turn off showing the zip files as folders in the folder tree. Which has nothing to do with changing their icons.
Hello Tannim,
Turning off compressed folders will stop zip files from opening like a normal directory folder in Windows Explorer.
Hope this helps,
Shawn
Sorry Tannim, but you are correct that it does not seem to work anymore in Windows 7.
I even installed 7-Zip and made it the default ZIP program, but the ZIP folders still act like normal folders in the directory by seeing what it is in them in Windows Explorer.
One more item to add to the list to find a workaround for.
Have you tried running the command "regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll" or is that the same thing those reg files in the links do?
I just used Windows 7 manager to cut this feature off.
