How old is the battery, and what is its capacity? An old battery is not capable of holding charge as efficiently or for as long as a new one, and there may be batteries with higher capacities available that will last longer on each charge.

Also, check your power management settings. You probably want to be in Power Saver Mode. If the display is not dimming on battery power that will eat up the power much faster than possible.

Lots of people say lots of things and most of it is pure speculation. You've got to wade through the muck when looking for information on the web.

If it were W7 that was killing your battery then it would be correctable in the Power Settings. Lots of people run laptops on W7. It will work. Did you try and expand those "Power Saver" settings and check to see what the sub-options are set to?

HP has had a major battery recall going on for quite a while now. Is your battery on that list?
