    Image problem

    Greetings everyone,

    Here is my predicament.

i have a HP 505b tower with Windows 7 pro on it. i have recieved word from my manager that we will be recieving 20+ more boxes by the end of march 2011. So i thought to myself "hey, why not image the first one with all the programs, printers, drivers, and apps and then apply to all new ones." easy? nope...
i tried imaging the HDD with Norton ghost, but it tells me that i cannot because "windows is currently in use". and when i try to use the "backup and restore" option in win 7, it only allows me to try to save everything to my 10G partition for the restore, yet doesnt see the second HDD i have hooked up to recieve the image...

i am very much stumped and could use some help...at the very least a push in the right direction...

    thanks

Do an image outside of Windows. Boot from your Ghost disc and you should have the ability to create an image from that.

Also, make sure to deploy the image on a staging machine or five to make sure it takes properly. If the hardware is slightly different, even, you could have a mess of problems.

If nothing else works, give Macrium Reflect Free a try or buy Acronis True Image 2011.

I like Acronis TIH '11. The interface feels more like Windows.

There's a more enterprise-ish version of Acronis that may suit your needs better if you can afford it:

Data backup and disaster recovery software for workstations ($99 a license) or maybe even just the normal version of it: Data backup and disaster recovery software for workstations ($74 a license).

There are free trials available to test most of their stuff out. Give them a whirl!
