win 8 and midori will be two different OS . so this strange build tag from the first post is just a fake . We should focus on incoming RTM :)

Midori is supposed to be their new cloud based operating system, here's what BBC News reported on the matter...

BBC News:Microsoft sees end of Windows era said:

Microsoft has kicked off a research project to create software that will take over when it retires Windows.

Called Midori, the cut-down operating system is radically different to Microsoft's older programs.
It is centred on the internet and does away with the dependencies that tie Windows to a single PC. It is seen as Microsoft's answer to rivals' use of "virtualisation" as a way to solve many of the problems of modern-day computing.

why is everybody astonished ? the build of win seven has started aprox. a half year before vista RTM.
So the question should be: why so late this time

OK, the build-numbering is wrong, because the complete 7xxx builds are reserved for win seven (and sp1, sp2. sp3 .... ), MS might start the builds with 8xxx (its just a guess, don't blame me )

and midori has nothing to do with windows, even some technologies will find their way into win8 as they had already in win 7.
Some clarification. The Pre-beta builds of Win7 were actually 6xxx builds, so it stands to reason that early Win8 builds will be 7xxx. Midori is a research OS, much like Singularity was. Midori is based on the concept of Cloud Computing, where Singularity focused on building an OS out of managed code. Neither of these will be commercial products, but lessons learned from them will be incorporated in commercial products.

If you look at Sinofsky's past history, there is no doubt he has a group already focusing on Win8, but it is a small group and they are really early in the process. Expect them to get moving after RTM.

The MinWin process is still ongoing, remember MinWin isn't a kernel, but a process to map kernel calls and establish very efficient interaction between kernel components. This will be a large focus on Win8. Vista started this, Win 7 is showing the fruits of this, and Win 8 should be very telling.

My biggest concern is that Win 8 changes the driver model again. This is a big part of what killed Vista's WOW. OEMs were not ready, and Vista had too much teething after such a long incubation. If there are driver model changes, MS must do everything they can to help vendors along.
