Windows 7: Windows Explorer - is BACK command available

Windows Explorer - is BACK command available

Windows Explorer under XP had an icon which was always visible that allowed the currently displayed directory to be reset to one level closer to the root directory. It was the equivalent of a BACK command. I cannot find the equivalent in the Windows 7 version of Windows Explorer.

Can this be enabled via a registry update, or added via some additional software?

Also, does anyone recommend a product that can be used to provide Windows Explorer functions and that also will provide a "print directory listing" function?

Thanks for the assistance.

For the first question the answer is no

It's not all bad though, using the back button frequently does what you want by default since most people navigate down to the folder they want.

But also, learning to use the explorer path buttons at top is actually a more powerful way of navigating. Though definaly not a simple as the Up button. But to go back one or two or three folders, juct click on the folder name in the path bar at the top and it will take you right there instead of having to hit the up button multiple times.

Now if only opening a folder in the left pane by double clicking on it would scroll UP to show the contents of the folder you just expanded instead of DOWN and hiding the exact thing you wanted to see...

Indeed. I find this feature more powerful than the simple "one level up" button. This way, I can go up one or two or even three levels with a simple click (which was a thing that I really loved about Nautilus when I was using Ubuntu 9.10 and XP)

I think you mean "UP", not "BACK"...."back" would be back to the last folder you were viewing, regardless of it's location.

Hi, Is it possible to get command buttons such as "Copy", "Paste" and "Delete" to be available on the toolbar at the top in Windows Explorer? The only way I can get to these now is from the "Organise" drop down menu or by right clicking a file/folder name. Rgds Auld Bint
