Sorry but we need a bit more information. System specs would help.

    - Also Is this a custom built system?
    - Lap top or desktop computer?
    - What kind of sound card do you have?

And judging by your post, when you say CPU, you mean computer case.

Also it's very likely that the front headers weren't hooked to the soundcard by the system builder.

normally if you use the back inputs they cancel out the front inputs and vice versa ,I think you can set which one you wish to use from the sound control panel

    hello core...
did you make this computer yourself? check you have all drivers installed by going to your manufacturer's website. What audio software do you use?

fyi.... CPU= central processing unit, aka computer processing unit

Anyway it sounds to me like the front hasn't been hooked up, but we won't know until he answers the questions.

I should have re-phrased it better sygnus , you can use F or B ,but not both together you either setup to use the rear (default) or setup to use front ( thats how it is on my asus mobo)

Yeah I got what you were saying pebbly, and I agree, I just didn't think that was the case.

    It's all good :)

BTW I have a add-on soundcard in my system - X-Fi Titanium Pro and have the front headers hooked up it so mine works differently. If I want to use my headphones I have to use the front header.
