    Petition your opinions

I am new to this forum and Windows 7 as well. I have been looking over the various threads and the amount of information is dizzying!

Playing around with computers was fun about 27-28 years ago but things began to move so rapidly I threw my hands up in the air and decided to just reside in the comfort of an ordinary, everyday, ignorant user.

Likewise the net has changed significantly also; it's gone from some quirky, old ex military tech ham radio enthusiasts using some sort of technology that allowed them to type on a monitor to communicate with one another (circa mid 80's), to Prodigy in the late 80's which was very basic at the time compared to when I officially got on the net in '99.

I've now bought my third computer which has W7 with my first non-dial up connection (DSL) and I would like to ask any of you for your opinion of what I have.

Your opinions about the computer, positive or negative are appreciated. Please bare with me as for some reason I have re-taken to an interest in recent times about the 'nuts and bolts' of computers (the result of free time to explore interests I had to back burner?) as I had many years ago but was too chicken to ask. Thanks to finding this forum, I'm not so chicken to ask. Thank you. :)

Here is a screen shot, I hope it is of an appropriate presentation to read.

By current tech standards - it's old and slow.

However, the most important thing is - does it do what you want it to?

If so - then there is nothing wrong with it :)

Thank you for your response. :)

So far I'm happy with it - and more! I like this DSL business and the computer too. In comparison with XP and previous OS' going back to the 'stone age' :), which I use/used at work and home, I find some things a bit challenging but I think it's a matter of getting used to a different (quicker or easier) way of doing things such as the messages asking me if I'm really, really sure I want to do something (gr!), or how truly easy it is to create a new file folder or zip file; it used to take step or few to do that but now there are 'dummy icons' that do all the work. I never thought it complicated before and sometimes take offense that I need only click on a simple icon to perform tasks wherein in the past, such required a few, clever keyboard moves, supported by corporate schooling.

All in all I can say I am pleased, and excited that I found this forum to learn more about this program and the 'nuts and bolts of general computing'.

Upon reviewing my above post, I see my picture is not readable.

The learning curve is relatively easy - after a while, you get used to being 'nannied' (or flat out being nagged ). The plus side is that there are ways to avoid it, or merely learn which ones are fine to ignore.

Overall, simple tasks are now made simpler to do and for complicated tasks, there are ways and means to make them seem less complicated.

As for learning the 'nuts and bolts' - you have found a good place to learn from. Any questions you have will usually net you multiple answers.

So if you have any questions at all - feel free to ask. That's what we are here for :)

(BTW, your 2nd pic is blurrier )

Thank you Smarteyball and all others. I shall try to lurk mostly, but if I have a question I will ask.

    Thank you. :)

*Hey! Who's got a cool independent line with a 300 baud modem! Just kidding*

I'm sorry that the second pic is blurrier. I thought the first pic was unreadable on my end so I DL'd a larger version.

Hyperterminal still works in Windows 7, but is no longer included, might want to find a copy to use with that 300/1200 baud connection...lmao.

Heh, was just at the flea market and scored a cool new voice emulator called SAM, gimme a while and I'll get it working to say 'hello' and 'thank you' to astound my friends! Also got a great deal on a 5 1/2" drive peripherial!

Good grief, there's a bit of catching up to do. The next life chapter is gonna be great!

Here are some tips for cleaning up a factory bloatware install so it unleashes Win7 to be the lightweight instantaneous OS it truly is (don't settle for less): HP laptop has used up all four primary partitions

This may be deeper than what you are looking for, but if not feel free to ask any questions - or ask them anyway!

Welcome to Seven Forums, This computer is good 3gb of ram can be upgraded if you progress in computers or if you want more. And some people posted great programs to download like CCleaner you should also download "Spybot - Search & Destroy" and if you don't have an anti-virus maybe get a free one. If you plan on watching media download VLC it supports pretty much all formats!
