Aero Peek not working after waking from sleep

I have searched all over the internet and in this forum for an answer. It seems that others have experienced the same problem, but there never seems to be an answer. I'm hoping someone can offer help, even it the answer is this is unsolvable don't waste your time

When my PC wakes from "Sleep" the Aero Peek preview windows don't work. I only get a text description of each open window, but not an actual preview of the window. The issue can be temporarily corrected via Reboot, but as soon as the system sleeps again the Aero Peek preview windows are gone again.

The problem most definitely occurs only after waking from sleep, not from Windows turning off the display. If I set my system to sleep in 3 minutes and I immediately awake, the Aero Peek doesn't work. If I set my system to never sleep, the Aero Peek keeps working.

After the system is awaked from sleep, when I right click on the Start button and select Properties for the Task Bar, the Aero Peek check box is still checked but the entire selection for Aero Peek is greyed out.

When I go into the Control Panel, Performance Information and Tools, the Aero Peek selections are not even showing in the menu list to select. However those selections are available when aero peek is working and the machine has not yet gone to sleep.

When I go into the Control Panel, Personalization, and select "Trouble Shoot Problems with transparency and other Aero effects," the system never detects a problem to correct.

I have looked at my registry, and it still shows Aero Peek as being turned on even when its not working.

My machine is a desktop HP with an AMD Phenom Quad core 9550, 6GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics running Windows 7 Ultimate which was upgraded from Vista. In my attempt to resolve, I have done a full windows update and I updated the graphics driver.

My system otherwise runs perfect and stable. I am really stumped on this, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you
    Andy

As you stated, this is an issue many have, and some find no answer. This seems to be a known issue on AMD systems, and the recommended fix is a BIOS update. It's also suggested to change the advanced power option for hibernate to never, so the PC doesn't go to sleep, then after a period, hibernate. If you've read all this and tried, I apologize, we don't know what you've tried until we suggest. Also, it's a good idea to fill in your system specs so we all know what we are working with. A Guy

A Guy, thanks for responding. As for the BIOS update, the HP Site doesn't have a newer BIOS listed than the one I'm currently running that is for Windows 7 (Phoenix 5.04 dated 10/29/2008). They DO however have one listed that's specific for Vista x32 & x64, version 5.13, but since it doesn't say its for Win 7 I'm reluctant to install. Is there another way to find newer BIOS updates other than HP?

As for changing the sleep and hibernate settings, I guess I'm not sure what you are saying in your quote above. I contemplated setting the system to Never Sleep, but that seems energy wasteful.

    Thanks

Try below steps to troubleshoot the issue aero feature disabled after resuming sleep

    1. Start, type cmd, right click, Run as Administrator.
‪2. Type bcdedit /set useplatformclock true and press enter.
‪3. Type bcdedit /enum and press enter.
‪4. Verify that useplatformclock is on/true.
‪5. Restart the computer then test aero issue.
The above worked liked a charm for me on the following platform:
    System Manufacturer HP-Pavilion
    System Model FQ563AA-A2L a6750f
    Processor AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor, 2300 Mhz
    BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 5.13, 07/05/2009

try this, type services into start search open it and scroll down to "desktop windows manager session manager"
check that it is set to started, if not right click it and select start or click restart on the left. hope this helps.

Hi boohbah. I recently started to experience the Aero Peek issue. I tried what you said, go to services and restart it. It works.. for a brief second, then my screen flickers (I guess refreshing)? Then stops working.

I hope you'll read this (pertaining to it being a "dead thread"). Lol

    Thanks.
