If u can find your cd, that's good then. Bu what i said was that if your any friend has Windows 7 running, you can use that to create a repair disc with which you can boot and restore your pc to another date.

Two things. I have never had a problem with Windows updates. The next is a question, how does one loose the c/d?

I have had problems with Windows Updates under certain specific conditions --- and to that extent I do agree with TonyTiger. I have found that if the update should happen to download while you have certain programs or apps open and running -- it can cause a conflict and a huge problem. Therefore, for me, the most cautious and prudent thing to do is to have the system notify me that one or more updates are available, which gives me time to close all of the open programs, apps, messengers, etc. so that I can get a clean download. Since I started doing that, I've never had a problem. [knocking on wood]

It happens alot more then people are willing to admit. I wasnt saying turn Updates all off. as for drivers. I still stand strong i dont let Win update do my drivers theyre never up to date. Too many graphics cards and hardware for win update to get it right. Example just the other day was Eithernet drivers update on win update. i went to realtek and downloaded even newer drivers that windows update was trying to install.

All in all DONT turn WINDOWS UPDATE OFF. Just have it download and notify you.

If you can find your install disc, you can still do a System Restore pre-dating the update, you'll just have to use method 2 here (scroll about halfway down the page):

System Restore

Agreed. It gives one complete control over the updates, and when things do go awry, you can pinpoint the issue quickly.

If you can't find your DVD, burn a Repair CD to boot into to run Startup Repair which will run sequenced tests and fixes including System Restore. If this fails after several separate attempts, boot back in to System Restore from the Tools list. System Repair Disc - Create

It is heartening to hear the XP oldthink about Windows updates corrected so resoundingly.

MS spent a fortune under WHQL paying for hardware manufacturers to develop drivers so that they would be in the Win7 installer and quickly available via optional Updates. This was in direct response to manufacturers holding out on drivers for Vista to force new hardware sales

.Yet many are still stuck in an Xpired mindset to have their drivers ready to add after install.

Do not change out drivers given by the Win7 installer or quickly updated via Optional Updates unless there is a performance issue.

In addition: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware
