Taskbar issue....
Why is it that when I check "auto-hide", it doesn't? Sometimes it will, but, other times it just won't go away and it can be annoying, especially if I want to close a window and it's hidden under the task bar.

Maybe you could try a system restore to a point where it worked?
If not, try SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
You're not alone, been going on for awhile. Seems to be caused by one of the applications you've installed.
See here: taskbar won't auto hide
This issue reminds me of that Microsoft TV commercial, comparing it to Apple. On one side of the desk is a big pile of money for marketing and on the other side of the desk is a really small wad of bills for research and development. This issue seems to fit into that commercial.
Yes and no. How's that for a positive maybe? I still have a lot of the MS Services unchecked. I did, however, turn off the system icons. So far, so good. I'll go back and check the MS Services and let you know.
Well, as of now, this very minute, the bar is hidden. So, I guess that's a good thing. We'll see how long it lasts. But, I still can't get that "really small wad of bills......." out of my head. LOL

When I booted this AM, the bar still won't hide. Back to square one.
I have dealt with this since the days of xp. I have friends that auto-hide the taskbar so they get more space for their U.O. gaming window. The only solutions that I found that works 100% is, do not auto-hide the taskbar. I know that is not the answer you want to hear, but after 9+ years of dealing with it, and no solution other than no auto-hide, it is a sad reality.
There is one other option, format and fresh install and pray that the taskbar auto-hide issue does not return. But it likely will if you continue to use auto-hide.
I will say this much more, on the xp machines, this was only present after .net framework was installed.
I will keep looking back to this thread in the future, because I personally would like to know how to resolve the problem as well.
