Once in a while my system. 64bit-Home-Premium, shows a black screen after the password has been entered to log on. I have not found any way out, except hard reboot.
Is there a explanation or solution for this?

When did this start happening?
Have you tried logging into safe mode and restoring your system to a date prior to this happening?
Does it only do it sometimes? Or is it frequent?
Please feel in system specs also :)
My Packard Bell TM85 is about 3 months old. I'm using as a desk computer with 24' monitor. I rarely turn it off, just lock the desktop, the black screen happens about once a week when I unlock. I lock the computer about 4 times a day. I think it has been like this from the start.

Have you updated all of your drivers lately? Video Card.. Ethernet... Sound Card... Motherboard etc.
No not manually, but the system is set to install updates from M$ automatically, I am under the impression, that takes care of all hardware drivers, but I might be wrong...
At least, from experience, when I connected an USB graphics adapter, w7 simply found the driver for it and it was ready for use in about 2 minutes, That was pretty impressive!
Therefore I'm guessing w7 keeps hw drivers uptodate...
Actually im one of those against Automatic updates from MS, As they dont always update the latest drivers. Go to the vendors website to get the latest drivers. Especially Ethernet and graphics adapters (from my experience) As graphics card drivers typically from big names like ATI and Nvidia get updated frequently.
So start by checking video card for updated drivers. you will want to uninstall the drivers first and run Driver Sweeper. Then Install the new drivers.

Thanks everyone for your input. I don't see this as a major problem therefore I'm not going to be doing any surgery on my system. I'm just hoping it will disappear with some upgrade in the future :)
