    "My Documents" is not normally on the desktop, it is the default windows document folder for a user, and is found at;

    C:\Users\username\My Documents

    Malwarebytes is a first class malware scanner with an excellent reputation and many people here use it routinely. But, if you don't want to use it, that is entirely up to you.

    Okay, primary issue identified as no isuue, but...

    Thanks for that simple answer.

    So that leaves nothing but one more (I suppose simple answer) regarding the Windows 7 registry name for the 'My Documents' folder; being registry named as "Personal".

    'Answer: That's the registry's default name for the My documents folder'. Yes/No?

    And what with my un-sharing and removals of networking, and it seems that just restoring the start menu's default settings, removed the padlocks from my 'system folders', so your suggestion for possibly dealing with permissions, might be well be moot.

    But much appreciation for the time and energy you lent towards resolving such what turns out to be a non-issue.

    Please note that I did research the question before posting and it's surprising that my initial asked question, has been asked before and I didn't see anyone answering it with anything but 'check for malware'.

    As for scanning or not, again, given that the start menu's right-hand column's 'show as links' has straightened itself out along with removing the padlocks, I can't imagine malware scanning as called for, given on what amounts to virtually a clean install.

    Again I appreciate your kindness in contributing to this 'resolution', especially since myself, as well as others, really should have remembered that W7 doesn't provide the usual desktop My Documents folder.

    I feel so embarrassed (as I did refer to myself an 'advanced' newbie).

    I can't help you with the "personal" folder. You must have set it up yourself at some time. It is not a standard default folder so I am unable to say anything about it.
