    Unable to access administrator account

In Win 7 Home Premium, I apparently did something wrong as I can no longer access the administrator account on my desktop. I am logged in as a guest and have tried just about everything suggested here. I have started in Safe Mode but can't access admin. I have used the installation disk to do a repair and used the activate command in the command prompt. I used the "enableadmin" mentioned on this site. Regardless of what I do here, when I restart I am back in Windows as a Guest. Even doing a system restore made no difference.

It would appear I have to do a clean install but before doing so thought I would ask to see if there is anything else anyone can suggest.

    admin

have you created a password reset disc/usb??

you could try that and see if it works?

on the admin logon when it fails click reset password and use the disc/usb to reset it
make sure the disc or usb is already plugged in

    just a thought

sadly my neighbour had the same problem, whoever was messing on the guest account had changed settings/services rendering admin account useless leaving me no choice but to reinstall

i'm sure theres a better solution and more technical folk will be able to help you

Thanks, gaz, but I don't even see the admin logon. Win7 just opens to the guest account and switching user or log off just opens back to the guest account. Like your case, I guess I will be reinstalling. This must be a bug in Windows 7 as it does not seem appropriate that a change in "control userpaswords2" should cause this kind of a problem.

I know this is quiet old thread but I’ll put this here so this will help somebody in future.
Yes……. you can do it with the help of miracle bootable CD (Windows NT password recovery CD). It is designed to re-set windows log on passwords (including Admin), but there is a option to turn a standard user account as Administrator. Operation is DOS based & after you re-boot you can have an account with administrative privileges. (You need to have at least one account with Limited access in welcome screen)
I also had no access to any program that administrative privileges needed, no reg edit, no group policy editor, can’t create user acc, no access to the user folders with admin privileges in users folder in C: …Ect but I came cross with this great software after one & half day’s effort.
    Here we go……
I’m not going to explain each step again here as it’s pretty clear on bellow link. But download with bellow link as the link in original thread is re-directing to bellow. Also try with CD version as USB version was not success with me.
