Windows 7: Can't move "note pad" files to desk topo folder.

Well, here is what happens; file drop down I hit "save as".
A window appears - it shows the Document Library. At the bottom is a save button.

Since I don't want the file to go into the Documents Library I click Desk top and then the folder on the desk top into which I want to place the notepad document.

When I do this the save button changes to an open button. If I hit this I get a message " no items match your search". The file does not transfer.

The only place I can send a note pad file is to the documents library.

Does ANSI code have anything to do with this?

Double click on the folder that you want to save it in, when you've gone through the 'save as' process you described. Then you should get the 'save' option

This is what happens if you open Notepad from your start menu, write something, and press "Save":

The save box defaults to "Save As", because you did not open the file from or at any specified location, it is a new file, and in order to save it you have to specify a target.

No, it doesn't matter in this case. Ignore the "No items match your search", go to the file name box at the bottom of the window and type in your file name. When you use "save as" you must specify a target.

I tried the double click. Didn't work. In fact now I can't save a note pad file at all.

This is what happens when you click on a target in the folder pane, in this case "Docs", and choose a filename in the entry box;

If you now click on "save" to the right of the entry box, the file will be saved to "docs".

If you want to move that file somewhere else, then you can simply copy it, or drag it or do whatever you want with it, WITHOUT opening notepad.

You CAN NOT USE NOTEPAD TO MOVE FILES!

If you click on a file that exists, notepad opens it, and when you are finished editing it, and click "Save", notepad saves the edited file back to where it came from.

If you want to save an edited file to some other directory, then you need to use "Save As", and specify a target.

If several people weigh in here it only confuses the issue. Let's get him up and running with one method first before giving others?

Or I will step back here and you continue?
