Moving and Saving. Sometimes, like right now, I can't save. And never can I move to my desk top folders.
OK. Go to "programs" --> "Accessories" --> Notepad, and <Right-Click> on it with your mouse
Choose "Properties"
And in the popup box choose "Security"
Do you have the same permissions as shown in that box?
Do the same thing for Wordpad, the permissions in the Wordpad security box must be the same as those in the Notepad box. If they are not, you do not have the correct permisssions in Notepad, and that is preventing you from doing various things.
That has nothing to do with moving files however, text files with the file extension .txt are identical regardless of which program created them, and if you can not move text files created or edited with Notepad then you have a system defect or a virus.
Get back to me with the results of the above...........
Regards....Mike Connor
My note pad is just like yours.
But my wordpad iis different. Under group or user names mine has a different icon highlighted. This one is labeled "Everyone".
And under permissions only "Read&Execute" and "Read" are checked "Allow". There are no checks under the "Deny" column.
Are we on to something?
The permissions on a program don't determine where it can save files. Only the permissions on the folder itself do that. If you can save, say an Excel or Word or Wordpad file on your desktop, then you can save a Notepad file there too.
Didn't work, Mike. Here is what I did. I created a file in notepad.
I hit "save as".
scrolled down and double clicked the folder into which I wanted to save the file.
named the file xyz*.txt and hit "Save".
Nothing happened.
Tried again and tried to save it into the default location. Still nothing happened.
