aero preview...
2 things i want to accomplish with windows 7.
1. something that already bugged me in vista aero. when you minimize a windows and then open a preview windows by hovering the windows in the taskbar, it freezes and you can't see the actual state of that windows. for example: you watch a movie, you minimize it, go to taskbar and hover it to see the preview, the movie paused. doesn't make any sense. 2. something new in windows 7, the "aero pick" as it called. you hover a windows in taskbar, the windows comes to front and all other a transparent glassy looking, don't like it that much, kinda annoying, anyway to remove it? any change the things i mentioned will be in final version? (i personally assume that at this stage, no.) |

Microsoft had put the Aero Preview System in so you that if you had, for example, two notepad documents, than you could tell the difference between the two.
As for the movies, it would be cool if you could watch them in the preview box, but that would require more resources. Not only that, I don't like looking at a tiny box all that much... |

The sad thing is, i can't see Microsoft changing that any time soon. A 'thumbnail' is just a static image
![]() Shame, it would be a nice feature if it was a 'Live' preview |

the movie was just an example.
here you have a better example: you download multiple files you install a game software, you browse a news site and want to know in a quickly if it changed. there is so many reasons to enable this feature, I'm sure that resources comes to mind when talking about such a thing, but at least give us the option most of us have computer that can handle it. well thats the thing, if you leave this windows open in the background it does exactly that, shows you a live preview, the problem starts when you minimize the windows. |

The answer to #2 is to turn off the "Aero Peek" feature. Finding where to turn it off I'll have to leave to others since I am not at my W7 machine atm
![]() [edit] For finding out things ike "where is the aero peek setting", give the windows help a try. Starting with vista, a previously anemic help system was replaced by something that is really quite amazing sometimes. You'll find out all kinds of things about Windows Vista/7 you never new cruising through that help system sometimes. |

![]() you can turn it off only for desktop preview when you hover the little button near the clock. MS is forcing us to use thing we don't need, win 7 is a great system but too bad there are thing that are unchangeable and could harm the experience. i'm pretty sure that a registry hack can resolve at least the 2nd problem but 7 is not yet that wide spread. |

For the refresh of the preview when the window is minimized I think it is a bit more complex.
I think that the preview is not refreshed because the application does not refresh his window anymore because it is minimized. So it means that Microsoft should changed completely the system of drawing in a window or intercept the messages sent to the window loop to redraw the preview. I am maybe completely wrong but maybe not... So don't get me wrong, I don't say it is impossible, I just say it should be very complicated. |

Just One Aero Thumbnail Preview per Window When I have multiple windows belonging to the same program, mousing over them gives me a preview of each window. If there are too many, they a vertical list of the windows appears. In Vista, I would only see the preview for the window I put my mouse over. A list would never come up. Since I... |

use aero peek to preview the desktop I'd like to know how to 'turn off' (untick the ghosted ticked tickbox) the "use aero peek to preview the desktop" as displayed in the 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' pane. I don't use aero and suspect this shouldn't be ghost ticked. |
