Furthermore, the hardware on which an OS is installed defines the functionality of the OS. The OP of this thread is making a valid attempt to fortify his ability to assist in the discernment of solutions for a wide range of issues. At least as often as not, the solution depends on the hardware.
If a person who requests a solution is more interested in privacy than a solution, that person is on the wrong web site. He might as well call MS or BestBuy. Oh, my bad. They will need the hardware information as well. But, at least it will be private. Oh, my bad again. That would be less private, as billing data would be recorded.
Free technical support from a pool of thousands of IT professionals comes at a small virtual price - fill out the hardware specs. Under your private user profile. Which contains no methodology for personal identification.
Maintaining privacy as a validation for not working within the program requirements is absurd.
i agree if i am going to try to help someone i want all the info they can give me. if i need more info to help them and they decide not to provide it i am going to ignore them. however it should always be up to the individual to decide how much info they want to share. in other words if the person doesn't want to help themselves then i am not going to help them. privacy is a right after all.
Agreed.
There was a discussion in the Gurus forum today about threads with zero responses. What can we do as a group to reduce the occurence of zero response questions.
I have to confess - some time ago, I changed how helpful I like to be. I read a question, look at the specs, the wording and grammar of the question, the OP's vital statistics - and make a judgement. I leave some threads unattended simply because I do not wish to engage in the same old arguments again - without knowing for sure that the arguments will present.
I know you lurking gurus, and gurus to be, know exactly what I mean.
Having a computer / Windows 7 related problem and asking help here on the SevenForums, not willing to tell about system specs because of privacy issues? It is like going to see a doctor telling it hurts but not telling where, letting the doctor to make some educated guesses until he / she accidentally stumbles upon the right disease or injury.
In my humble opinion it is just plain stupid.
