Yes they do. Read the articles I linked to. Your Windows no longer passes the validity test after installing these language pack hacks and cracks, preventing for instance use of Windows Update and installing other Microsoft software that requires validity test.

Because in my opinion the last thing we should do in the Seven Forums is to recommend a procedure or software that can cause even more serious problems to users than the the original issue they asked help for.

It seems that the recommended approach had been to say nothing, and then laugh when the OP had posted "Please help me! My Windows is no longer genuine!". I feel stupid that I did not choose this approach. Learned my lesson.

Can I respectfully point the OP to have a squint at:
New Install - no problem

In short - you can fresh install another language version and use the same COA key...

Yes, if e.g. you have the 5 language version.

My first attempt at restoring to the out-of-box config failed to change the language. But this may have been because I mis-understood some of the promps since they were in French.

I may use Mike's solution to get the machine in to English, then restore it following the restore instructions in a language that I understand.

In any case, I appreciate all the help.

Or for e.g. you have a monolingual OEM copy (Spanish) and fresh instal English RTM using the Spanish COA. Now, I can't tell you it will definately work for the French version, but my experience is that it does work on Spanish OEM, and I have no problems with validity. I did it 3 months ago. Just a kindly, friendly headsup.

Good luck,
Regards
