    What's Up With My Thumbcache disappearing?

    Every build of windows 7 that I've used, from the rc to 7260 has been great except for one problem. My thumbnail cache is constantly deleted and having to be rebuilt. I have many, many pictures and videos and this is a problem to have to load thumbnails all the time. this is always on a fresh install with no added software. Does anybody else have this problem? If so, have you been able to find why the thumbs are "automatically" deleting? I don't think it's a widespread problem because I have yet to see anybody else discuss this.

    I've had no such problems either with Build 7000 or 7100...

    Ok, thanks for the reply, Dzomlija. I guess it is something unique to my setup that I have to try to figure out.

    Are you using CCleaner? By default it deletes the cache, but you can un-select that item in the options. If that's not it, I'm stumped.

    nope. it's a completely fresh install... no added programs. not running disk cleanup or anything. I'm completely stumped as well. Vista doesn't have this problem.

    problem still alive

    I have exactly the same problem still first RC release. Today, using RTM Ultimate French, the problem is still there. I have a lot of videos like ryana, and randomly the thumbnail cache is totally cleaned;

    The only solution I found : backup of thumbnail cache files (users/{username}/local/appdata/microsoft/windows/explorer/*.*) with Acronis true image every day (with 5 day history). When the cache disapears, I restore my backup and thumbnails are back.

    I believe Windows seven does a clean up automatically, maybe on a maxsize parameter base, I searched every forum talking about this since may 2009, nada !

    Anybody has an idea ?

    Same.
    It’s why I can’t use seven.
    Have you the thumbcachetodelete folder in your user explorer folder just before is deleted?

    yes, it does create the thumbcachetodelete folder. I've also noticed it is creating thumbs.db files. I've never used XP on this computer, so they're not leftovers from XP. You have to show hidden files and show hidden system files to see them. I'm stumped. I was hoping to get this figured out by the time it's released, but I'm not thinking it will happen. I won't buy unless I can figure it out, which sucks because I like 7 except for this one problem.

    Ryana1980, can you update your system specs, because I think for a hardware issue.
    Thank You.
