If that helps, I updated my system specs too.

Usufruit50, I have updated my system specs. It's an older system but is more than enough for what I do with it. From what I can tell, we have no similar hardware. I was thinking the same thing about it being a hardware problem and was considering upgrading, but I'm reconsidering that seeing as how you have the same problem and have an up-to-date system. I'm completely stumped.

Ryana1980, i think your right, seem not a hardware issue.

As the problem seems not to have a solution yet, I tried the following : I modified the security rights of the folder "users/{username}/local/appdata/microsoft/windows/explorer" where thumbnails files cache are kept by windows seven. I deleted the "remove", "remove file" and "total control" from the rights of every user allowed tu use this folder, with replacement of the right for all child folders and files.

I did it 2 days ago and, since that time, no problems : thumbnails are well created and updated and did not disapear. Before, I was obliged to restore my thumbnail data base every morning.

Wait and see a few days more, but I believe it worked.

My solution seems to work as well as possible. 4 days after modifying the security rights, then not allowing to the unknown windows 7 "ghost" process reinitializing thumbnails cache files, my thumbnails are steel there. Ryana, what details do you want ?

Maybe the problem is that I'm french and my english sucks I'll try to explain better , but i'll have to translate my french windows messages in english, and I don't know if they'll fit with the real ones on an english Windows Seven. Let's try:

    - In Explorer, right click on the folder who maintains the Thumbnails cache :
"users/{username}/local/appdata/microsoft/windows/explorer" (where {username} is replaced by the name of the windows user, for example Alain for me)
    - Propriétés
    - Sécurity
    - Advanced
    - Modify rights
    - Here appears all the users who are allowed to use this folder (for me For "System", "Administrator" and my user "Alain". For each user :
    - Modify
    - Uncheck "Total Control", "Delete subfolder and files", "Delete", "Modify rights", "Appropriation"
    - Chek the last check box "Apply these rights to objects and containers etc."
    - Click OK

This seems to have the following effect : no more user is allowed to delete the thumbnails cache files, who was exactly our problem.

Since this right's modification, I never loose my thumbnails. The only secondary effect I found was a system message saying that the search indexing process encountered a problem and stopped (2 times in four days). I don't know if it is related, but maybe it is the automatic search indexing process who modifies the thumbnails cache files, and now it is not able to do it.

If anybody tries my method, i'd like to know if the same secundary effect is encountered. But for me, even with this message, I prefer no to have to restore my 9000 video thumbnails every day, even I have to click "OK" once every 2 days on an error message.

    Keep me informed.

    Alain
