missing HD space after boot

Hello,

I have Windows 7, 64bit, installed on an Intel 40gb SSD hard drive as my boot drive. I have moved my "Library's" a 640GB WD as well as a few of my other programs. I also moved my page file to the 640GB drive and turned off system restore and sleep mode.

When I first boot I have about 21GB free on the boot drive but it drops to 19GB free after a few minutes. What is using the 2 gigs shortly after boot?

Thanks for looking at this

Hello Steve,

If you have 2GB of RAM and have hibernate enabled, then this could be for the hiberfil.sys file. You can test by disabling hibernate using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to see if you get the space back afterwards.

Hibernate - Enable or Disable

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Wow, thank you both!

I am now showing 24GB of free space, all the time. I forgot to mention I'm running 4 gig or RAM, not sure if that is where all the bonus space is coming from but I'm very happy

I have bookmarked both links for future reference.

Thanks again!

1TB of HDD space missing completely
My laptop has a 2TB hard drive, but a few months ago over half of it completely vanished. Windows explorer shows that my C drive is now only 911GB. I believe the issue came about after I uninstalled Ubuntu (I dual booted for a while) and I thought that perhaps the space just didn't get reallocated...

C: space seems be missing
I have a strange problem with my wife's desktop: when I query the size of c:\windows, it tells me there is 17GB's worth of files, but when I go into the folder and query everything, one by one, it only adds up to rather less than 10GB. And I am pretty sure I have displayed invisible as well as...
