After reading that thread I'm glad I don't belong to that forum. Two of those Moderators sure are condescending. Telling everyone they are stupid to be concerned about the problem, even after many members stated why they were concerned.

Jim
Yeah, the Mods sure seem difficult to get through to over there.

I hear you, but there are definitely some good people over there as well, like the Mod who took the time to install the newer version of WL Mail in order to confirm that it would result in this behavior. In other words, even though he was not currently having the issue, he was willing to create the problem on his system for the sake of troubleshooting.

There are also some users on that forum who are waiting to hear back for MS on this issue, so hopefully we'll have more information on this soon. If and when this happens, I'll pass the info along to this thread.

Stay tuned,

Larry

I have such folders, all empty, in Appdata\Local\Temp, they are created each time I open a Windows Live Movie Maker project. Hence my guess: it's a glitch in some part of Windows Live Essentials, these folders belong to Appdata\Local\Temp, not to Appdata\Local

I verified that I get one a day the first time I open Windows Live Mail. I know others have refereed it to MS but don't expect a fix anytime soon. I just delete them once a week.

Based on previous tests done by various people, I'm pretty confident that you'll still see this issue, assuming that you use the latest version of WL Mail -- Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3508.1109).

Either way, could you let us know what version you end up with after the re-install? It's the top line of the "about" screen, which can be found in the dropdown list at the top left corner of the WL screen.

Thanks,

Larry

For now I will just keep deleting them on a weekly basis until MS issues a fix. Thanks for the link. Keep us informed as I won't be back over there.

I have found these forums to be one of the best windows based communities I've ever found. I ask for help, and I get it. No one tells me I'm an idiot for doing things the way I do them.

And now for some on topic, I've seen these folders before but only in a previous install of Win7. I just made them hidden. But I guess if they keep popping up, deleting them would be the best way. You could always write a batch script to delete them and have it run on startup. Other then that I've got no solutions.

I have found the application(s) which creates these folders.

Hence msnmsgr.exe, the MSN Messenger program from Microsoft. Which md5 sum has your file, is it one of the files listed here ?

It's important to note that even though msnmsgr.exe created those folders on moonman's system, this program is apparently not the only culprit. On my system, it is clearly Windows Live Mail that is creating the folders, and after doing a full search, I found that msnmsgr.exe is not even present on my system.

C:\users\username\Appdata\Local ....... empty folders
I have been regularly deleting those empty folders. Not a big deal, just annoyance. Question...... How did that happen ? Someone had suggested that it has something to do with WLM. If so, anyway to stop them from appearing under Local ? IF WLM does not cause that, then what causes that ? ...

Local\AppData\Credentials folders - missing
All, I screwed up today. While meaning to delete files from AppData\Local\Temp, I accidentally deleted (many) from AppData. After a brief panic, I downloaded (from another machine) the utility Recuva64 (thank you!) and restored the missing files to a separate drive, after which I copied them...
