Number of Recent Items and Programs grayed out

    hi Brink

on Page one of this topic:
    Start Menu - Customize

    option one
section 3 To Customize the Start Menu
    screenshot 3

I have "recent items" checked, however in the "Start menu size" I have no option to change the # of items displayed (see s/shot #1), so consequently I have no recent items to show in the start menu (s/shot #2)... sigh. Is this a "feature" when using the classic theme in Win7Pro perchance?

I don't want a context menu to drop down... just a list of my most recently used documents/jpgs/programs. I don't want a recent items list on the taskbar. Also I don't want it appearing under the programs list (see s/shot #2).

    Am I asking too much?

argh... ty for any help/advice you can offer

    Hello Bootsmom,

It appears that you may have Recent Items and Recent Programs disabled. See if enabling them using the tutorials below may be able to help.

Recent Programs - Enable or Disable

Recent Items - Enable or Disable

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Did you use the REG downloads, they are more thorough?

Did you have both of these options checked and applied first?

no I did not use the .reg downloads and yes both options are still enabled. I did a cold shutdown... and amazed myself... I found the problem ! (but only after a long hard think).

    to reiterate:

rightclick start/properties/start menu tab/under privacy, both options are enabled.

    then

rightclick start/properties/start menu tab/customize/ and on this tab I now do have the option to set a 'start menu' size.

I set the 'number of programs to display' to 0 (because I do not want them showing above the "all programs" field). I then set the 'number of recent items to display in Jump Lists' to 20.

I got the results I wanted but still have NO idea what a jump list is, nor do I need to know <grin>.

thanks for your time Brink, appreciate your help.
