    syswow64 Safe Mirror

Does any one know what the Safe Mirror folder is for? It's located at "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Safe mirror" and has files in it that I thought I deleted a long time ago. I no longer need these files but am just curious what this folder is for I've tried searching google but can't find anything but people talking about backup.

    Thanks,
    ~Trcx

From what I can find, this folder is created by Cobain Backup. DO you use it?

Yes I do. That's funny. Can you think of any reason why it would need to create and copy my files to another folder on my HD? I have it set to back up to an external drive so I can't think of why it would create a folder on my main drive. Hmm...

    Thank you!

Sorry, I've never used Cobian so have no idea how it works. All I can guess is that is has a "live" component that is continuously making a backup to a location on your hard drive. That's just a guess.

I'd suggest asking in one of the Cobian forums

My "Safe Mirror" folder is using half my hard drive. I've spent two days cleaning up my drives and STILL no space, so I've been searching properties of every folder on the drive to find the culprit. My hard drive space was EVAPORATING and I couldn't find a reason for it. Wow, what a nuisance.

I was very glad to find your comments here. Thank you.

    I know what it is.......

Cobian Backup creates this folder to store backups of things which get deleted as part of its normal updates in a mirror backup task. It does this to protect against accidental deletion. If you don't want that protection, uncheck the "Safe Mirror........" item under "Options" --> "Engine", though I would recommend leaving it checked, moving it to a location that is easy to find, and merely deleting the old stuff once in awhile. If you turn it off, you are left with no protection against accidental deletion or malicious (virus) deletion.

Version 11 of Cobian Backup will include some major improvements to this function. You may want to check it out.
