Safe mode in dual boot

I have just installed win 7 and got the dual boot with windows Xp, which I already had. now I want to do safe mode of windows Xp tapping the F8 during the boot, but nothing safe mode at all. What happened ???
I cannot rich the safe mode even in win 7. I don`t know why ???

XP, Seven, 2008R2

on my system I need to hit F8 just after I select Windows XP from the boot manager menu.

btw, if you have a USB keyboard, make sure USB keyboard support is enabled in your BIOS.

You can always set the current OS you're in to boot in safe mode next time using MSCONFIG.
