    What program is that?

I'll do some playing with it to see if it does the same for me as well.
Thanks Shawn, it is this program WM Capture - Super High Quality Video Recorder But please don't waste too much time on it. It is only a little annoyance and not a big problem.
You might see if rebuilding the icon cache may help.

If not, then uninstalling and reinstalling the program may help.

I installed it and had the correct icon for the "C:\Program Files (x86)\WMCap\WMCap.exe" file and the pinned icon on the taskbar. No generic icons for me.

Fixing the icon cache did not do anything. What is interesting though, the icon on the desktop and in the taskbar is still generic, but if I "delete" the icon from the desktop, it shows the right icon in the prompt window. Just weird. I will try to reinstall it one day if it continues to bother me. Thanks for all the help.

if you run the installer over the existing installation, it may fix this issue .

As I have experienced, sometimes the icons stored in installer folder (C:\Windows\Installer) is deleted by running a deep disk cleanup or registry cleanup using a third party tool such as tuneup utilities . In this situation, A few program icons turn in generic icons .

I have seen this event previously for MS Office, Adobe Reader, Corel Draw, and Tuneup itself :)

Just to make it clear.... ran a registry cleanup and complete disk cleanup using tuneup , and there is only one element in the installer folder, i.e. Opera , and all the others are gone

Now MS Word, Corle Draw and and Reader look like these images

Thanks a lot to Shawn and his Image Backup tutorial .... I will get everything fixed shortly

Arc, Thanks for the hints - but I never run any cleaners except CCleaner for temporary files. I stay away from all those "wonder programs" as a principle. I might reinstall over it. But this is a touchy program and I had some trouble with reinstallations before. So I am a little reluctant because now at least it works as expected.

Honestly, I suggest renaming the program to WMCap1.exe in Programs. You will see the icon change to the normal one. I do not understand why this works but it does.
Then create a shortcut and pin it to the taskbar.

Now it gets interesting. Just wanted to try your trick. But when I looked at the .exe, the right icon was mysteriously back and I could pin it correctly to the taskbar - go figure. I have not done a thing. Was working on a Power Point presentation all evening. But thanks for all the help anyhow.
