No, you don't sound like a grumpy old man, Mitchell65. I also agree with you, and thanks for bringing it up. We do go out of our way to provide help to each other, and it would be great if OPs actually tried some of our suggestions!

By the way, I'm one of those folks who did finally turn my UAC off a while back, but I have pretty solid anti virus - anti spyware protection, and, knock on wood, haven't had any invasion since I turned my UAC off.

Hi Sue
I would not query you turning off the UAC. Your participation on the Forum suggests to me that you have enough experience to know what you are doing. I think, sometimes, we feel the urge to save some souls from themselves. But there that is the impetuosity of youth. Well I think it is, I can't remember!

Anti-this-or-that software is not a replacement for UAC. As a matter of fact, the amount of security that any of those software packages add to your system is minimal compared to running as a Standard User with UAC turned on. Running your day-to-day work as a user with administrative privileges and UAC turned off is a sure sign of incompetence as far as computer security is concerned. Sorry for the harsh words, but there is no way to sugar-coat this kind of thing.

No problem, Pirx, no offense taken. I think we're all here to learn and to get good advice. Yes, your words might be construed as harsh but if I deserved them, then I'm happy to hear what you have to say.
