How to stop explorer windows opening in a new window?

    How to stop explorer windows opening in a new window?


    Hi guys,

    This has been getting on my nerves recently, because every time i click on a folder etc. it opens in a new window.
    It is an new pc with windows seven on it.
    I have had 2 viruses if that helps.

    Go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options. Under Browse folders, you'll see your two options.

    I assume you got rid of the virus?

    just to be sure, are you talking Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer?

    Hi, if you go in regedit
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell and you see OPEN in right pane that's wrong. Double click the key and delete open.

    Try again.
