    Removing file extension associations

Ok so I set .rar files to automatically be associated with 7zip, but now when I download a rar file, firefox is automatically set to 'open with 7zip' instead of 'save to disk'. Anyone know how to remove that association? I'm used to saving everything, and its a bit of a hassle to hit save to disk everytime i download a rar file. any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Grouchpunk,

This may just be a setting in Firefox instead. In Tools - Options, check to see if you have this selected below to have it ask you where you want to save it by default.

    Hope this helps,

Yeah, that is the setting that I have in FF. Any other file that I download it asks me where to save, its only rar files that it tries to open in 7zip. I'm pretty sure somewhere along the line I made 7zip the default for rar files, now all of the rar archives have a little '7z' icon on them and they try to open in 7z when I download them. I thought to look at the FF settings first, thinking that could be where it is, but that says to always ask. I'm completely stumped. Thanks for trying to help.

Umm. I did some testing on this as well with this, and I get the same thing in Firefox and not in IE. The option in Firefox to "Do this automatically..." is grayed out as well. It looks like there is no option but to select Save File each time for this in Firefox.

Yes it does. I would recommend to send in a report to Mozilla about this with Firefox. Maybe they can have it fixed in the next version. :)
