    Restart problem

    Win 7 build 7260
    Acer Aspire X3200
    Athlon dual core 4050e
    NVIDIA GeForce 8200

This problem occurred with RC too (which is why I 'upgraded' and reinstalled):

If the PC does a 'Restart', it gets stuck on the 'Starting Windows' screen (i.e. the animated Windows logo fails to appear). I then have to hold down the power button to shut down. When I restart manually, the 'Starting Windows' screen and animated Windows logo appear fine, but then I get the choice to either 'Launch Startup Repair (Recommended)' or 'Start Windows Normally'. I choose 'Start Windows Normally' and all is well.

Any ideas on why I can't do a 'Restart'? (Shut Downs are fine btw)

    first welcome to SF
did you do a clean install or upgrade?
At some point you might want to consider doing a repair. It might get rid of the restart problem
If you want to try and diagnose it. go to start type event in search and click on the event viewer. see if there are any errors there relating to this problem, and if so using the snipping tool upload a snip of a couple.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Ken

Thanks for directing me to the Event Viewer. It reminded me that I'd applied various 'tweaks' to services.msc. I've put everything back to the default settings and a Restart now works fine
