Add laptop power-on key to 2nd keyboard

Hello, I made my Windows 7 64-bit laptop my new desktop. I put all the peripherals to the laptop; monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc, etc. Everything works fine.

I am able to restart & shut down the laptop from the added monitor(start menu), however, I'm not able to power it back on from a complete shut down from the 2nd keyboard. I have read
there is a way to do this. Right now, I must go into the laptop and toggle the on/off key. My question, is there a way to add a turn-on key(power on) to the 2nd keyboard? And if so, which key would be most appropriate for this? Thank you for all your help on this forum.

My desktop can do that, its a BIOS function and a jumper on the motherboard to supply power to the keyboard and mouse when the PC is off. A mouse click or pressing any key on the keyboard will power it up. On my PC it only works if the keyboard or mouse is plugged into a PS2 port. If they are USB all they can do is wake the PC from sleep or hibernation. I would be surprised to see that feature on a Laptop but you could have a look at your BIOS Power options.

If you intended to use the laptop in a closed position, you should have chosen one with a docking station, as that's how it is intended to be used. That's a problem with non-business laptops...there's often no way of powering on the system without opening the screen and using the button.

Thank you! Pretty sure I do not have this capability on this laptop. It's all good. No problem to open laptop and do a manual power-on once every couple of weeks. I can make a restore point at same time as a good dusting. Win, Win. Thank you all for your wonderful help on this forum!

DeaconFrost, your last post just appeared. I don't have a docking station for this laptop. It's 2 years-old laptop(Intel Core2 Duo 6600T 2.20Ghz; 4GB Ram) and thought I would just try it as a desktop for a while. Nothing fancy but it has worked out wonderfully so far for what I need. Not true love......but very workable. I can buy a desktop at any time so thought I would play around with this laptop in the meantime. I had the all the extra peripherals from times gone by. Needed to get a couple adapters to fit for USB.
I am workhorsing it with Paint Shop Pro, PhotoShop, Animation Shop and font and file managers, and it does stall at times. Did not want this change out to cost alot of money so working it as is. So far so good. Thank you for your help!
