How to get rid of "Do you want to allow..."?

I am sure i have had a virus once or twice since using Vista/7. Not once have I had the UAC pop out of no where asking me if I wanted to do something I didnt initiate. Im not so sure how useful the thing really is. If I open a program to run it, then I am obviously ok with it.

And if the reason they didnt allow us to mark programs as "Okay" and skip UAC, is due to not wanting a virus or something to put itself on the allow list, why cant they just add an extra security. Each time something is to be put on the "allow" list, you get a UAC prompt. Seems simple enough to me.

M$ doesnt recommend a lot of things Or they recommend useless things, like updates and service packs which dont do a great deal.

I cant say ive ever seen UAC come up asking me if I want to allow or disallow the boot of a virus or a program I didnt ask it to, it is pretty pointless, although I wont turn it off. Its not much hassle to just press Enter or click Yes.

I just looked at Windows Update and it recommends Microsoft Silverlight, thanks Microsoft for trying to fill my HDD with useless $hite.

You misunderstand how UAC works. UAC doesn't block anything. Things are blocked by default. UAC only *ALLOWS* you to do things you would otherwise not be able to do. Most malevolent programs wouldn't pop up anything, they would just silently fail. You won't see that, you just won't get infected.

Only programs that are launched in a normal way will pop up a UAC dialog, and only programs that know about UAC can request a privilede escalation (which would also pop up a UAC).

Most malware would simply try to write to someplace like \Windows or \Program Files and would simply silently fail. Since it can't install itself, it can't restart once you reboot..

You are working under the wrong assumption that since UAC prompts don't pop up, it's useless. It's like saying "Keys are useless, because I've never seen anyone fail to open my door".

You're right. It's not doing anything to protect you, because that's not what it does. UAC gives you the ability to do things you wouldn't otherwise be able to do in a locked down environment. That's why it's called user ACCESS control. Because it gives YOU access to things YOU want to do while in a locked-down environment.

UAC is the key to a lock. It's not the lock itself.

I was able to stop this from happening with Battlefield 2142 by unchecking "Run this program as an administrator" under the Compatibility tab in the properties of the program.

I right clicked on the Battlefield 2142 shortcut, then clicked on Properties, and then the Compatibility tab.
