let's try a whole new angle of attack:

all this right-clicking on icons and opening tabs malarkey is all just a gui for changing a registry key.

i think you'll find what you're looking for in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders - the personal key being 'my documents'

    *edit*

    there's also
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Once you move the Location the tab will disappear from shell User folders.

There are other reasons it might disappear as well.

This requires restoring the Location tab using Option Two here: User Folders - Restore Default Location

Well, I think I've screwed the pooch on this one, and am about to give up out of bewilderment. I'll tell you where things stand. I followed the steps in that guide. There isn't a regkey for my personal folder provided, so I decided to just risk it, and delete the key (I'm an IT Tech. If it breaks, I'll just rebuild the machine). Here's the interesting thing. If I type in shell:foldername it will take me to the default folders... except for if I do shellersonal. That points to the mapped network drive I wanted it to go to originally... except that if I click on my username on the start menu, it goes to the default folder.
