Sticky taskbar

I hope someone can help me get rid of this annotance. I run a Dell Windows 7.
There are some programs that won't exit 'processes' when I close them. Specifically Firefox and Outlook. The annoyance is that they won't reopen until I go to task manager and manually end the process. Can anyone tell me how to get these to exit automatically? Thank you

Hi cyberlav and welcome to SF!
Those behaviours (hanging apps) are often caused by faulty plug ins/add ons

For Firefox check here
Firefox hangs | Troubleshooting | Firefox Help

For Outlook check here
Outlook doesn’t close | HowTo-Outlook
or here

Thank you for helping

I'm not too swift at all the inner tweaking being suggested in these articles but I thank you for sending them and will begin to make my way through trying the ones I understand. At least it gave me some insight about what the problem is. Thanks again.

You're very welcome! I hope you can figure it out.
A simpler way for Firefox would be to disable all extensions and see if it closes properly. If so I would enable them one or two at a time until the culprit is found. Or start Firefox with a clean new profile and go from there.

Managing profiles | How to | Firefox Help

(as long as you don't delete it, you can always go back to the profile you're using right now (just take note of the name...they're quite cryptic. And since nothing else is affected, this seems to be a fairly simple way to test it out without causing unwanted damage)

This is a solution I wasn't aware of so I'll look into trying it. One problem I have in testing is that it isn't consistent. It closes right away sometimes and others it stays in processes until much later when I try to open FF and the error informs me it is already running and I have to close it down before opening it again. Hopefully I'll know how the fix is doing. I'll report how it goes.
Thanks again.
