    Windows 7 won't install

Hello, my friend has an Asus g50v laptop. He was looking to install Windows 7, so I walked him through the process. He completely formatted his hard drive...

It's been a day now, and he can't get it to work. He keeps getting a "error code 0x80070003" during installation. It says that the required files to install it can not be found. He has burned 3 different kinds of DVDS. A DVD+R Memorex, An HP DVD-R, and a Verbatim DVD-R. All at 4x verify with IMGburn. They all seem to pass the verification process, so I don't know what the deal is. He is installing the RC off of the windows website. I'm clueless.

Perhaps the other pc he is using to burn the discs has a bad burner? Is his DVD drive messed up? I don't think so... he used it a lot for burning his home videos, and they worked great. I'm gonna' try and get him one of the leaked builds to see if it helps him... But if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all hears.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I accidentally posted this in the wrong board. Can it be moved to the installation & setup section?

    Hello Melee.

It may be a bad DL (unlikely, but possible).
It may be a bad burner. If at all possible, he should try a disk from someone that used it to install it themselves.

Also, Seven is finicky with BIOS. Has he OCed anything ever? If so, he may want to reset the CMOS.

Hello, thanks for the tips. I would give him mine, but he lives 4 hours away. I'm thinking it might be a bad burner too, but it turns out the first DVD he tried, the memorex, was burned on his own laptop while vista was still installed. However, he did install it at 16x, increasing the chances of a failed burn. (Also, it's memorex. It probably would have failed at 1x, lol) So... I guess there's still a possibility of a bad burner. He's never overclocked anything, and knows next to nothing about computers besides video editing. I've had to act as tech support for the past few hours... Walking him through gparted / how to DOWNLOAD windows 7... etc. Hahaha.

Yeah, thats a pain. Might be worth it to send him one in the mail or something.

I had a similar problem when I started burning Windows 7 DVDs. I'm no sure if it was the same error code. Tell him to try burning at 2x speed. The slow burn process solved my problem.

After about a total of 13 hours... We finally got it installed. I walked him through how to make a USB install and it worked fine. Thank goodness.

You can also install Any of the windows 7 builds by mounting the Iso to a virtual drive, or even unpacking the iso and double clicking setup. I haven't burned any of the 7 builds that I've used, I've either mounted the ISO in PowerIso or unpacked the Iso and hit setup. They have all worked flawlessly. I chose this way just to be able to rule out a bad burn if something went wrong, and to cut down on the number of dvds I was using, as I've installed like 4 or 5 different builds over the course of my WIN7 experience

That works really well, yes. But I still like having the Hard Copy. That way when I lose it on the computer, I still have a backup.

Yeah, that is reasonable, and smart lol Thats why I keep my latest ISO on a flashdrive, but then if something were to happen I would still need to get vista back in working condition... lol
