How to create Shortcut 'SED' instead of 'SED.exe - Shortcut'?

I often have to create Shortcuts to executable code.

I used Shortcut Extension - Remove or Restore to get
    Code:
    SED.exe
    instead of the Win7 default
    Code:
    SED.exe - Shortcut
as name of the newly created shortcut.

But I would prefer to have just 'SED'. Any way to do this automatically?

I think it might matter that I do not hide extensions ['Hide extensions for known files' (Option in Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options... -> View)].

    Hello Blacksmith,

This can be done by checking the Hide extensions for known file types box in Folder Options as in the tutorial below.

File Extensions - Hide or Show

    Hope this helps,

Hi Shawn, Thanks for your help. However that is not what I want. ''Hide extensions for known files' is something that would bother me all day if enabled - I need to see the extentions!

What I look for is, a way to suppress the extension just for the shortcuts - the moment they get created. I usually have no problems to know what I deal with, when I use shortcuts.

The only other workaround without hiding known file extensions that I know of is to rename the shortcut as it's created.
