I think his question was more geared towards whether or not he could go from 32bit to 64bit. another call to microsoft confirmed that he indeed can
I guess I could have been more clear but I meant that as well as I was assuming that with a format and clean install that X86 to X64 or vice versa would not matter. Good call on giving M$ a shout to clear things up, they are proving themselves to be really helpful today.

I am not sure about cross language upgrades, and its past 5 here so I won't be able to call MS and ask till tomorrow. Perhaps someone else might have the answer to this?

The computer I plan on installing it to, which currently has the 7 RC on it, doesn't have an OS Disc just the manufacturer restore DVD. Do I actually need the Windows DVD or will having the serial number be good enough? It's XP Home, by the way.

If its installed on your computer, you don't need the OS disk. You boot into your OS, start the disk, and it will confirm you are upgrade eligible. Then it will start the install process and ask you about formatting options and clean install options. But since you have XP it will start the clean install process immediatly. You only need the OS dvd if you want to install on a blank hard drive and don't wanna take the extra time to install 7 upgrade version twice.
Also, you can upgrade your RC if you wanted to keep XP installed on your computer. A previous OS disk is only needed if you want to use the upgrade DVD on a blank hard drive and dont wanna hassle with double installing the 7 upgrade disk.

Yes, one of my calls to microsoft confirmed that when you buy any version of windows 7, full or upgrade, 64 and 32 bit will both be included
