It hasn't been officially released for sale in any country yet, if thats what you mean. It is going to be released in the U.S. on October 22. Though we can pre-order in the U.S., but I'm not sure about any other countries

So does this mean the upgrade is out? How can I got hold of it in South Africa. MS website only allows for shipping to the US.

Don't worry about it. I'm sure that 7 will make it out to south africa eventually sometime once its released

I am using Win7 RC Build 7100 as my only OS. I own the retail version of Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS. I have also just purchased the upgrade disk. Reading the above posts I believe I understand how to clean install the upgrade disk. I've noticed that the upgrade apparently comes with both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. If this is correct, when I do my install, will I be able to choose which version I want (hopefully the 64 bit version) even though I have had only the 32 bit OS. I have tried the RC 64 bit version and it works with no problem.

Yes you will be able to choose whether you want 64 or 32 installed. My Vista disk has both versions on one DVD, and a little box comes up and asks me which one. The 7 Disk will either be the same way or come with 2 DVD's, one for 64bit and one for 32bit. I've seen MS do it both ways in the past. But bottomline, Yes you will be able to choose 32 or 64 bit when it comes time to install. But to be clear, to go from a 32bit to a 64bit, a clean install is required. So as long as you don't try an in-place-upgrade, you'll be fine and be able to install 64bit.

TO OP: If you want to save time, also a TESTED method: U can modify your section 2, change the upgrade part to clean install... THATS IT... Windows will STILL ACTIVATE AS LONG as you PUT your key when running the setup from WINDOWS 7. BUT IF YOU PUT YOUR KEY WHEN BOOT FROM DVD, it won't work...

Thanks for the help. My Vista Home Premium disk indicates 32 bit only (only one disk in box).
Looking forward to October to get the final version.

You are basically explaining the same method that, if one were running vista, pop in the disk while running Vista, and choose clean install, only you are saying do it from within 7 instead of choosing upgrade from the newly installed 7? Am I understanding you correctly? I thought had already stated that method

Sorry, its stated before as "DOUBLE-INSTALL", but upgrading after installing is slow.. A short re-cap:

WHAT I WOULD DO IF my country had the 50$ offer:
1. Install Windows 7 without key.
2. Also uncheck activate online.
3. Once Windows 7 installed (30 day trial),BOOT IT then run the autorun from Windows 7 DVD...
4. Put your Upgrade key.
5. Select Clean Install (It will still work) [not upgrade].
6. WAIT.
7. Once all is done. ACTIVATE!
