So I have been reading these posts and the upgrade method is becoming very appealing....so I have a question and a comment. To me the only said benefit of getting the full license is to save time (if you do the double 7 install) unless someone knows something I don't know. Does anyone know that is doing the double 7 install may affect disk space?

No, it won't take any more space. Just a bit more time to do the double install.

You can do a single clean install with the upgrade disc and the keys are retail so your not really gaining anything with Retail over Upgrade other than the upgrade requires a few extra steps during installation, though I doubt it would add up to more that a couple of extra minutes for the install.

It is really interesting and kind of disturbing about this whole Upgrade situation....You can get a real cheap upgrade right now (59.99 for my HP) and use it like a retail license without it being illegal to the license (the OP said that they actually recommend it that way)...to me it is a rip that they even price those retails so expensively considering the only difference I can see here is a factor of time

    The FUD Continues

This post says the double install, and simply inserting a "real" XP or Vista disk, is balderdash...

Windows 7 RC To Final Upgrade Possible

I ordered the 7 upgrade, so I'll find out one way or another. But if 7 does "require" seeing an installed "activated" Windows OS on the target machine, I'm screwed. I built this machine just for 7. No other OS has been on it.

I think you will find you don't have any trouble.

MS wants to get as many people onto 7 as fast as they can . They will make it easy.

Honestly the upgrade disk will allow you to CLEAN install. when ask CUSTOM, select CLEAN install when ask DO NOT ENTER A KEY(read the popup carefully). since your KEY will be a UPGRADE KEY. continue and Win7 will have 30 days.
any time during or instantly after final install. while booting to Win7, open the DVD Device click setup - when ask click "upgrade" when ask insert the "upgrade key" then finish.

The manual should tell you the same thing. only written differently.
I have upgrade disk since Win3. and never have had a problem with CLEAN installs using them.

No matter what that post says, I called MS to confirm what I was saying.. What I wrote in my OP is legit. And vista allowed double install, and other windows os's allowed inserting previous OS disks to validate upgrades on clean hard drives

I ordered the Home Premium Upgrade from Amazon, but what would like to know is this ... I am currently using build 7260, will I need to do the double install method, or is going from a RC build to the retail considered a true "upgrade"? Any clarification would help!!!
