Promo codes for getting it cheaper? I'm not aware of any. Perhaps a Family Pack of Windows 7. Think they were going for $99 recently or maybe it was $120...but that's for 3 copies.

Vista Home 32 bit

Nope, not a student.

I guess I'm going to have to back up everything first. Any easy way to do this? I borrowed my roommate's external hard drive, but it doesn't have any autobackup software on it. Do I just copy everything on my harddrive and then past it back to my C drive once I get Windows 7 fully installed?

The reason is I currently have Vista 32 bit. I'll have to do a "clean install" in order to change to 64 bit (which I did decide I want do it).

Yep, that's the easiest way. I never can truly recommend a program like Easy Transfer Wizard, as I don't trust software to know what is important. Software shouldn't ever be needed for that process. All you need to do is move the important files, favorites, documents, game saves, etc to the external. Then you unplug it until the system is up and running.
