    OVerheating Issue

    Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone had some advice on a small issue I'm having with my PC. I've recently installed a new CPU (Intel Q9650) and it's great, really powerful processor able to handle the largest programs with ease. There is a slight problem, in that it overheats. A lot. Like you wouldn't believe. This thing can hit 48 degrees Celsius at startup, and on large programs like Games for instance, she can go up to 70 degrees.

I've taken precautions, such as using third party programs such as Core Temp to monitor the heat and provide overheat protection (if my PC goes over 65 degrees it shuts down) in case it gets too high.

Initially I thought that perhaps it was something I had done, such as apply too much heating paste on the CPU, to which I removed the fan and reapplied the paste, though far less than I had used previously.

I also added a fifth fan to my PC as protection, however now it heats up even more than before. To combat this, I adjusted my Smart Fan and CPU min. fan speed so that they read 55 degrees and 87.5% respectively.

I also downloaded a 'Smart Fan' application to run in the background, to make sure that all fans are running at 100% power, however my core's still running at between nearly 40 to 65 degrees for the most basic of things (downloading Google Chrome for instance, caused my PC to run at 55 degrees).

The Fan I'm using is a Zalman Fan (I don't know which one, but the guy at the Store said he'd recommend it if I want to do overclocking. Which I don't) and there are 4 additional fans in built into the machine, with another built into the Graphics card and another in the 1500Watt power supply.

It really should be very cold in there, but it isn't so if there is any helpful suggestions or things that I am doing wrong, I'd really appreciate people's input.

Hi alphabeat, Are you using the fans in a push-pull configuration ? Is the new cpu heatsink secured and touching the cpu correctly ?
It's strange you add a fan and the temps rise

    Hey Guys,

I went and replaced the thermal paste with some Arctic Silver and it appears to be working really well now. The Cores sit between 24 degrees (core 0) and 35 degrees (core 3).

    Is that normal?
