    Control Panel Shortcuts

Hello, I have moved the administrative tools folder in the start menu, causing the shortcut in the control panel to fail. How can I make a change so that it points to the new location?

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

Firstly, why would you move it from it's default location in the first place?

    Update

If you type Administrative into the Control Panel Shortcuts-vistastartbutton.jpgStart Menu search box then click Administrative Tools it'll open a window allowing you to change the properties of each shortcut, more importantly, the new current location.

Thanks! I should point out that it's not the actual program file in the System 32 folder I have moved, it's the shortcuts for the administrative tools in the start menu, which the icon in the control panel points to. I simply want to have my own structure in the start menu.

By default the System Administrative Tools is located in the following places in the Registry

    1, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
    2, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

If you've changed the location within the Start Menu then you may need to update the registry to point to the new location. The defaults are...

    1, C:\Users\[Your User]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools
    2, C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools

    OS

That did the trick, many thanks!
