Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me

Did Windows 7 mess it up and it had to be repaired?
==============
On a related note,
I had a friend who bought a Sony laptop 2 years ago with Vista RTM on, and she bought an extended warranty. Her hard drive started acting flaky like 2 weeks before the warranty was due to expire. They came to her house, replaced the hard drive -- and put the original factory image back on, which was Vista RTM! Not Vista SP2 or even Vista SP1 -- RTM! Which was what the laptop came with 2 years ago, but still...!
So, she asked me to update it for her and take all the crapware off again.
No i dont think it was because of 7, i just think the harddrive was pretty s*****. I hope the new one is better. They also installed Vista rtm on it, no sp1 or sp2 just RTM so im in the progress of a massive updating and the story you wrote is almost the same as mine, except my pc is a HP and it was bought in 2008
With that $50 upgrade disk, does that mean I have to install either vista or something lower than w7 to use it?
I've also ordered a win 7, but is professional. cuz I like the XP mode thing, in case .... u know. I have a laptop with vista home prem. I'm now afraid my home net working can't communicate well because of two different systems. Any opinion?
Thank u very much grouchpunk08, that's I want to know. Otherwise I got to order another 7 for my laptop.
Another problem I have recently for my vista home premium: I can't install IE8 and I try to install vista sp2 also failed. Every time get the message saying cannot configure correctly, revert to prior system( I don't remember the exact word, sorry). any way I've tried a lot time and failed. I don't know why. My computer is AMD athlon(tm) 64x2 dual core 5600 2.8g, 500g HD, 3g RAM. I know this is win 7 place, but this problem bothered me a lot. Any one can help me? Thanks.
Are you running 64bit vista? and If so, did you make sure you downloaded the 64bit service pack? and if 32 did you get the 32bit service pack? Not exactly sure about the IE8 thing, it came as an update for my vista, but I use firefox anyway. Try disabling UAC and you antivirus when you try to install those two things. Also running as admin wouldn't hurt.
