    Switching to Mac

How difficult is it to get all one's files from Microsoft to Mac?

If you have an external hard drive, you should just copy all of the files on there. Then when you plug it into your Mac, it should be easy to copy the files onto the Mac.

It should be simple, isn't everything on a mac simple, failproof and 100% totally safe and secure :)

It took four posts before that type of response was given. I was betting on post two.

Dude, you aren't supposed to look inside of it. If you need to get inside of it, take it to the Apple store and let the geniuses do it for you.

In practice (and depending on how much data you need to transfer) you could use one of three things:

    1. Use an external drive/medium - HDD, SSD, flash drive, DVD-RW (no BD drives on Macs, right?). This is the simplest option technically, but may take very long if you have lots of files and then it requires your actual presence to swap the drive between the machines.

    2. Set up a ftp or sftp server on either of the machines and transfer your files over the network. This should be also rather simple, since MacOS is basically a Linux clone these days, so there should be such a server built-in, but I have no access to one, so I can't verify it. On the Windows side you need to install some software, personally I use Cygwin.

    3. You can go through the cloud - i.e. upload your files somewhere safe and then download them to your target machine. Plenty of options there, Google is your friend (some people might even use their employer's servers, but I don't know your situation in that respect, again the amount of data is important).

A couple of other options exist, mostly for a direct connection between computers (i.e. without a use of the IP protocol and router hardware), like some special USB cables, but I am not sure these will work between a PC and a Mac.
