    Open Command Window Here RESOLVED

For all DRIVES, <shift>|right-clicking displays OPEN COMMAND WINDOW HERE in the context menu, above the first separator. That item opens the command prompt.

But for all other folders the OPEN COMMAND WINDOW HERE item displays below the first separator in the context box, and clicking on it returns "create an association in Default Programs." I tried associating CMD with CMD32.exe. No go.

After a Net search, I imported reg files or made manual reg changes suggested in this forum and others that write to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT|DIRECTORY and/or DRIVE keys. Same result.

Restoring an image of W7 just after it was first installed, I saw that the prompt did correctly open in some additional Explorer <shift>|right-click folders, but not all.

Can others confirm the same behavior, please - or suggest fix for what's gone awry?

Borate, if I do what you say, then I see the "open command window here" option in both drives and regular folders. The specific placement of the option in the context menu varies - and it's never above the first separator. I guess this means that different programs install their own items in the context menus and you have a different set of problems installed.

Now, clicking on that option just opens a command prompt for me, no problems there. For fixing your problem, try this tutorial by Brink and also look for related tutorials at the end of the page.
