Windows 7: XP, 7 & Ubuntu

XP, 7 & Ubuntu

Is there a proper way to remove XP? 7 did not mind being moved to secondary boot order, but XP did not like it. So I forcefully formatted XP with partition editor & now 7 will not boot. Running:

Code:
bootrec /FixMbr
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBcd
From CLI & also trying Startup Repair have both got me nowhere...

If I have to restore from backup, I will need to tailor XP to it's new environment (as secondary HDD) or remove it entirely, the right way this time. Help!

EDIT: To clarify I am dual booting XP & 7 from secondary HDD. XP did not retain user settings like desktop background but did retain installed programs (system tray.) It booted "afresh" with take a tour of XP dialogue. Thought this was due to moving Win OSs from primary HDD to secondary. Should not of nuked it. My mistake. Have restored from backup & know not to delete XP in a hurry.

Hello mate.

Before we make any specific recommendations will you please post a snip/screen-shot of the entire disk management drive map with a full description as to which drive/partition is which, so we can see what you have going on as there may be a fairly simple way to resolve the situation.

In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a snip of that.

Tis OK now. I nuked my Windows boot loader by formatting XP (dual booting with 7.) Then nuked my Linux boot loader by running above commands, forgetting that the recovery CD would assume Windows was on the primary (1st) partition.

Have restored from 7 & XP disk images & reinstalled GRUB. Everything back to normal now.

Phew! My post was in the ensuing panic of not having on demand access to my precious data!
