    zip not working

Just been sent some zipped files by e-mail

when I double click them, I get an option to open or save them

I click open, but nothing happens

My collegue has no problems on his machine doing the same command

I have tried a registry fix for associated File Association Fixes for Windows 7 - The Winhelponline Blog files but it still doesn't work

You must have a file archiver tool installed such as winzip or 7zip. I would recommend using 7-Zip which is a file archiver with a high compression ratio, open source and free to use as opposed to winzip....works great and handles many other compression formats such as .RAR

I'm not aware of it but you could be right.....however even if it does it isn't in the same ballpark as the 3rd party tools freely available to you.

The win7 native tool is very basic E.g. it cant extract .iso or .rar files, so if your files were zipped in an unrecognized format they wont be extractable. Best to use a free 3rd party tool like 7zip or IZARC.

The obvious problem seems to be a damaged/not fully downloaded zip file.

yeah! thats what i thought, but windows would not recognize the format, leave alone, extract it.

IMO, it must be a damaged archive, thats why windows cant tell what to do, and wont respond.

Just reread the first post- have you tried saving the file instead of opening?

What happens when you right click on it? Do you see a menu option to extract?

    I use 7-Zip.

If you choose to use it make sure that you get the matching x32 or x64 installer.
