Shut down

Windows 7 will not shut down. The "shutting down" screen appears and the systems stays there forever.

Any ideas?

Hi plas686, welcome to the forums.

What AntiVirus are you using if any? I've had the same experience where certain AV software was halting the shutdown process.

I just installed AVG Free but this was happening before that. 7 has never shut down properly. BTW, I'm running x64.

In all honesty id try diconnecting from the net on your next bootup then uninstall or at least disable your AV then try shutting down as this has been a known issue. Also if you could fill in your system specs (User CP -> System Specs) so we can accurately advise that'd be great
