Will Not Sleep

I have restored 7 Ultimate from backup, HDD crash. Only thing, it will not sleep/suspend. I have tried tweaking the power options to no avail. I'm kinda hoping someone knows why? Thought it may be Crap Cleaner deleting a registry key but restoring reg from backup, then rebooting did not work.

When I hit sleep it justs goes to logon screen, if I deselect password on resume it just dims screen & dumps at desktop, nada.

Please do this
start>cmd>powercfg -A and tell us what the available sleep states are.

C:\Users\fleamour>powercfg -A
The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby ( S1 S3 ) Hiber
nate Hybrid Sleep
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Thing is it did before restoring from image?!?

No integrity violations. I did use Windows Live One Care registry scan & it is supposed to create a system restore point before proceeding, but protection was turned off on C drive, so fat lot of good...

OK. Non sleep behaviour only occurs when booting into 7 from GRUB 2 (I dual boot Ubuntu 10.10.) When "clean" booting 7 from secondary HDD with F11 pop out menu it'll sleep fine. I use sleep a lot.

Maybe this will help someone.

GRUB corrupts Win7 when on the same HD. All bets are off unless you use separate HD's booted via BIOS Boot Order or one-time Boot Menu key.

I was booting GRUB from 1st Linux HDD with link to secondary HDD where Windows resides. Booting this way meant 7 could not sleep. However much easier to use EasyBCD, I've discovered (as advised on these forums.) That way Windows is kept as primary OS (as it likes) but can boot Linux as daily OS, if so desired...

Much better setup that way. For some unknown reason EasyBCD was not auto configuring itself when I first tried it (it would not auto detect, or boot, XP or Linux partition.) But this time it worked flawlessly.

If you have separate HD's then the cleanest Dual Boot method is to install each OS with the other unplugged. Then set preferred OS as first HD to boot in BIOS setup, choose the other OS HD using the BIOS one-time Boot Menu key given on first boot screen.

This keeps the HD's independent to come and go as you please, whereas the GRUB or Windows managed Dual Boot interlocks them requiring surgery to remove one. This advice is from the surgeons.

True enough, I s'pose. I've had to reconfigure /fstab each time Linux HDD's SATA cable has been physically swapped. As it would "lose" the swap partition. Windows did not complain bless it. I cannot set boot order in BIOS, it is hard wired. However I find the F11 pop out menu at POST a pain time wise (it'll reboot all over again) + you also have to hover to catch it. I find it quicker to use EasyBCD with Ubuntu set as default OS, yet physically Windows is still hard partitioned as first boot device. So will not screw GRUB if I ever have to repair Windows boot loader.
